Dijkveldbos

18 januari 2019

Until a few days ago this was our forest full of natural life. I have always known it. I played in it, walked in it for 63 years.
I understand that trees grow old and die and that they have to be replaced. I understand that wood is an investment. I don't understand why they cut all the trees at once.

I agree! They do that here all the time in Oregon in the US. Reason? It is less cost to the loggers. Selective logging is so much better for the environment and it always leaves forest, yet they can harvest and thin. There is always a better way than the most profitable.

I am with you, we have the same practice in the Pacific Northwest of the US. Clear cutting is ugly and the forest takes years to recover.

Very powerful image. V
Clear cutting is common in British Columbia. It definitely generates an emotional response in a lot of people, including me.
