Trumpeter Swan (R24)

Warrenton, Virginia

Took three shots of R24 swimming around in the open water remaining in the upper impoundment portion of Fox Pond.
Four of us (Bert Harris, David Larsen, Chuck Phillips, and myself) hiked out into one of the Clifton Institute's open field area from 4 PM till just after sunset.
We were hoping for some views of Short-eared Owls, Northern Harriers, and whatever else that ventured out on this rather cold winter's day.
I was told that R24 was raised in Canada and has visited several ponds/lakes in Northern Virginia over the years. Note the metal band on this one's left leg.
Lots of activity on this very cold winter's day. Best viewed in 'original' size.
