Stonehenge on The Columbia

Maryhill Stonehenge Memorial
Built by Sam Hill as the nation’s first WW I memorial dedicated
in 1918 to the servicemen of Klickitat County, Washington,
who died in the service of their country during the Great War.

A very interesting place to
stop on Highway 14 in
Maryhill, Washington.

There are not enough memorials to those who fought in WWI especially when you consider the scale of war and loss of life. Oh, and great low angle image.

What a great memorial nicely captured - our son, a history teacher, works hard at keeping the two WWs alive taking a couple of trips to the battle fields with his students . V

I'm wondering if this is a well-kept secret since it seems largely unknown, but perhaps it is not. Interesting that the design mimics that of Stonehenge. V

Very unusual memorial.
We have made a big thing of the 1914-18 war after 100 years.
I do wonder to what degree it will fade away from public consciousness as further generations come along.
My grandfather, whom I met as a young boy, fought in it so there is a personal connection for me, which is not there for younger people now.

Most of us never heard of it. This is a fine memorial image. I'm glad that you posted it. Not too many young people are aware of this horrific war.

alignment is key at such a place, and yours is spot on..

What a powerful memorial and you photographed it so well. Great with this soft light and low perspective. "V"
