Au XIXème siècle seize moulins fonctionnaient sur la ligne de crête de la Butte Montmartre. Il en subsiste deux qui ne sont bien sûr plus en activité.
Le Moulin Radet - nom d’origine du Moulin de la Galette - fut bâti en 1717. En 1834 il fut transformé en guinguette.

Le moulin fut peint par Vincent Van Gogh et les bals qui s’y donnaient inspirèrent Auguste Renoir et Henri de Toulouse Lautrec.



In the nineteenth century sixteen mills worked on the ridge line of the Butte Montmartre. There are still two today that are of course no longer in operation.
The Moulin Radet - the original name of the Moulin de la Galette - was built in 1717. In 1834 it was transformed into a « guinguette » (a kind of open-air restaurant where it was possible to dance).

The mill was painted by Vincent Van Gogh and the « guinguettes » inspired Auguste Renoir and Henri de Toulouse Lautrec.
