201812171 7343 Evening Grosbeak.jpg

Ottawa East

The Evening Grosbeak reportedly used to be common for the Ottawa area; however, this is my first sighting and capture of them in the Ottawa area. I have, however, previously seen and photographed them at Algonquin Park. Resently, there is a flock of about 20 +/- frequenting a feeder in the east end of Ottawa. There was also a rare female Rose-breasted Grosbeak accompanying the Evening Grosbeaks.

I remember when these birds would descend on feeders in huge flocks in Ottawa and eat the seed in minutes it seemed. And then they vanished over the years. This is a superb shot. V

Nice shot, Hank. We had them at our place years ago but no more.
