A short poem by the Japanese poet and Haiku master, Ryokan (born 1758). Ryokan was a Zen monk, living in both a monastery and also following the wandering life as a pilgrim. This translation is by John Stevens from the book "One robe, one bowl. The Zen poetry of Ryokan", 1979.
