Biên Hòa, Việt Nam

Biên Hòa, Việt Nam - Parking lot detail. A location near the South Vietnamese Army III Corps Headquarters,
shows men on a scooter driving, and abandoned rubber plantation buildings forefront and on the horizon.
On one occasion at this specific location we were met by three American soldiers who were waiting for us.
One of the soldiers called out my name, as I walked over to him he introduced himself as my 1st Sgt from basic training at Ft. Bragg, N.C. I was surprised, though I didn't remember him.
At first I thought he was going to tell me I needed more training.
But he was also working with the South Vietnamese, and he had a list of men who were in country from his previous units and he said he would try to visit with them if he could.
Our conversation was brief and he was very encouraging.

Another surprising and pleasant encounter I had in Viet Nam was a short visit from my cousin Mark Smith, a Air Force career officer,
who stopped at my commcenter one day during a layover from one of his flights.

On my original flight to Viet Nam from San Francisco we made a transfer stop in Hawaii.
As our group was shuffling through the airport I noticed someone I thought I knew, and I approached him.
It turned out to be Wes Tuttle, from Glenwood City, who was on vacation and was wandering around Honolulu International. - 1970
