Behind Enemy Lines

I was trying to catch a woodchuck but instead caught this unusually calm opossum.
He or she was slow to leave the trap (most animals bolt quickly) but eventually ambled away.

Sorry about your losing your cat and running into someone who prevented you from getting another. Stinks when honesty isn't the best policy.

Hum.mmp...what a cool story...graduate school, puppies & kittens and Liquid Fence (I didn't know this existed).

(what the hell...my own animal rescue story)

So I had to put down my cat of 13 years, feline leukemia...and I go to get a new cat, an adult even, I'm good about this...

There are two in my area...both refused me an animal because I refused to say that I wouldn't let it out from time to time...(I could lie of course, but didn't, or refused to tell an untruth in this regards)

"I'd like to have this 7yo calico, it reminds me of my pet..."

"Promise to keep him indoors?"

"Well, No, I woun't make that promise."

"Then you can't have him."

"Look," I said, "this is an older male cat, he's been here over a week which means you'll be killing him within 48hours...let me have him...buy him."

"No, no way, " she told me firmly.

"Have fun killing him, that's what you are going to be doing, we both know this," I said, leaving to a bunch angry stares.

Heck, I figure both places must like killing cats, turning me down as they did.

It's a never-ending struggle. I enjoy seeing them, and I'm happy to share (particularly at this time of year). But they seem to have an appetite for some of the plants that matter most to me. Please, eat all the weeds you want!

Rest assured that I'll never try to trap a deer. But I wouldn't mind using a paintball gun to spatter them with Liquid Fence or other deer repellent. What deer would want to mate with a sticky doe or buck?

I actually earned the nickname "Trapper Dave" when I was a graduate student. I shared a house in the country with two other guys and learned the road it was on was a dumping ground for puppies and kittens. Many of them were flattened by cars, but I managed to capture a few young enough that the local animal shelter was able to find homes for some of them.

Excellent...you know I love your critters....though confess, don't you sometimes think you may have missed your calling....to be a fur trapper in the 1840'S?

Grin, but true.ish

Yes, it is a clever title. Right up Paul's alley.

I thought the title of one of my photos in Exhibition would elicit some chuckles: http://www.pbase.com/cichallenge/image/168277288

Both funny, and well done - good composition.
These 'possums are slow creatures to begin with, but this one looks placid as well - almost as if it wants more food.
