'I am a survivor and I vote'

Many of the arrestees were so young. As Sen. Lindsey Graham was portrayed as saying on the “Saturday Night Live” spoof of Kavanagh’s confirmation, “We made a lot of women real worried today, but I’m not getting pregnant, so I don’t care!” in reference to concerns that Kavanagh will see to the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, which protects a woman’s right to have an abortion if she so chooses.

*****

We went to a protest on Saturday at the US Capitol, just to see what was going on. A large group of people protesting the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Brett Kavanagh to the US Supreme Court had stormed the steps of the Capitol and stayed there until they were led away by the police one by one and arrested. We were in a large, very emotional crowd in front of them, taking pictures.

Regardless of whether one favors his confirmation or not, I believe this was a case of democracy in action.

Great candid shot, Helen. Thank you for sharing it. I am worried about where the country is heading. In many ways it reminds me of the split country that I came back to from Vietnam in 1968. Unfortunately, today's schism, with its partisan/dysfunctional political scene, is worse.

interesting that the officer seems almost embarrassed....the expression of the woman behind speaks volumes..
