Ichneumonid wasp, female (Mesostenus thoracicus)

Byrne Big Creek Nature Preserve

A tiny wasp nectaring on asters. You can see how small she is by comparing her to the small aster flowers. That long bit on the end is not a stinger (she cannot sting), but is an ovipositor, for laying eggs. Thanks to J. Hoskins, iNaturalist, for the ID.
