Rochester, NY

Mt Hope Cemetery
About 300,000 souls rest here. It was dedicated as a cemetery in 1838. Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass are buried at Mt. Hope. There is also a plot of unknown people buried from a Rochester poor house. Bodies from the poor house were discovered in the 1980's at a nearby construction site. The skeletons were moved and interred at the cemetery.

The combination of the old graves, the trees well on their march along the way from fall to winter and the sepia monochrome makes this very appealing. ~BV~

an arresting image....some gravestones do not look so old...Rochester seems immersed in sadness..
