One of the few remaining WWII Liberty Ships - The Museum Ship SS Hellas Liberty

The museum ship SS Arthur M. Huddell (Hellas Liberty) is a Liberty ship from the Second World War. The ship can be visited in the harbour of Piraeus.

The ship was launched on 7 December 1943 and at first carried explosives and general cargo from Florida for London and carried coastal cargo from South Carolina to Algeria.

In 1944 the ship was converted to a pipe carrier, transporting pipe from the USA to England for a fuel pipeline in the English Channel (Operation PLUTO), which was built following the Normandy landings. Later the ship carried coal, general cargo and personnel between the USA, France, Italy and Algeria.

In 2008 the ship was sent to Greece for conversion to a maritime museum and was renamed 'Hellas Liberty'.
