The wasps and bees were working the fall blooms of this Sedum really hard - frost is coming next week.
The wasps had more color.

Every now and then yellowjackets set up a nest in the mulched area just off my patio. When we walk off the patio and they have a nest there as expected they react to protect the nest. Also expected I run and squeal like a schoolgirl on the playground.... then when nighttime comes I get my revenge, BIGTIME! It turns out that yellerjackets aren’t very good swimmers, especially being trapped in their underground nest. Paybacks a bitch!!! Paul

It is a yellow jacket - which is also a member of the wasp family. Jim
