Day Four
We hauled up to Kansas City this morning. The initial intention was to visit the National World War I Museum. When we arrived we discovered that it is closed on Mondays. So Ginny quickly pulled together a Plan B which worked perfectly.
First stop was the National Frontier Trails Museum in Independence. Everybody has heard of the Santa Fe, Oregon, California and Mormon trails. Well, they all started out from Independence. The Museum was small yet interesting. It is sitting literally on the start of the trail. If you were a supplier back in those days, you could make a bunch of money.
Next we went to the Bingham-Waggoner Estate, right across the street. Another one of those houses of rich people. The last residents were very successful flour millers. Their product was called Queen of the Pantry Flour. That is a pretty cool name. I am easily amused.
Finally back across the street to the relocated Chicago and Alton Rail Road Independence station. The docent there was very interesting. He was actually a telegrapher for the railroad when he started his career. Today's photo is of the station.
