Door detail, Bibi-Khanym Mosque, Samarkand

Construction of the Bibi-Khanym Mosque was started by Tamerlane in 1399, and in the 15th century it was one of the largest and most magnificent mosques in the Islamic world. By the mid-20th century only a grandiose ruin of it still survived, but now major parts of the mosque have been restored.

Doors built for giants! Wonderful to see the scale with the person entering.

Fantastic details on the mighty door, only regretting that they now have to place cameras everywhere and then in such an unfortunate place, very fine work beautifully portrayed, BV

big doors here...the visitor adds a much needed spark of life to the scene...odd there is a security camera at a place of worship..
