Brown Thrashers arrive every spring and it's an absolute pleasure to sit in the fields and listen to their songs !!
The male arrives in early May and stocks up on protein as he thrashes through the lawns looking for grubs! He takes a break from this and flies to the highest tree and sings his heart out in search of his mate who is approximately a week behind him. Once she arrives, they get down to the business of nesting.
Last summer we had 2 juveniles that hung out with us near the gardens ... enjoying bugs 'n berries ... fattening up for their trip south. They hadn't perfected their flight skills and brushed up against Aubrey as he was picking 'their' Honeyberries. Click on the Vimeo link and listen to their song. https://vimeo.com/314295325)
