Day Forty Five
This was the first of two travel days to get us back home to Houston. We try to avoid long driving days, but sometimes it is necessary. Today is 525 miles and tomorrow will be 410 miles. While we are on the road, the last thing I think about is going home. I lose track of the days because the next day is going to be a lot of fun just like the present day. Ginny's detailed schedule works perfectly. Tomorrow we are home. I know that because it is on the schedule.
Getting back to Texas always feels good. Having spent some time in California, it feels especially good. Although the parks were wonderful, staying there is not. It is expensive. On a road trip one very important expense is gasoline. It is outrageous in California. Those buggers tax the hell out of everything that moves and a lot of things that don't move. We paid up to $3.89 a gallon there. So, it was refreshing to stop for gas in Amarillo and pay a more reasonable $2.55. You don't have to be good at math to figure out that is more than a dollar difference. A fill up was costing us an extra $20.
