Summer Storms Above a Sea of SUVs
Our close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico means we get tropical weather. Storms moving in from offshore can dump a lot of rain
in a short period of time. This is the reason why Texans drive pick-up trucks or SUVs. It's common to have a foot of water on the streets after an afternoon storm.
Since it's very flat here on the coastal prairie land, the streets are designed to carry the water away from the homes and businesses and take it to the bayous.
If you drive a small car, you may get stranded for a few hours while the water drains away. If you drive a truck or SUV, you can go on your merry way.
