June 13th

My Office, Sugar Land Texas

Every day, I pour two pitchers of water into a low gutter for the birds.
This baby Black Vulture was watching me giving his Mom a drink of water and he got so exited that he fell off the roof and landed - not so gracefully - in the shrubs below.
It was his first time on the ground. He had quite an adventure for about 30 minutes before he made his way back to the roof. He can fly about six feet.
In this photo, he joined Mom for a drink from her mouth. Very cute. Then, he ran across the lawn and into the pool deck area, where we had to chase him out.
Then ventured to the main entrance. Some children were leaving day camp and they chased him.
He ran straight to the mailbox and from there he awkwardly flew to a low branch.
He saw Mom in the top of the tree, so he flew to higher branches and back onto the roof.

He is learning fast about the hard knocks of life. Nice that you are able to care for the wildlife.

Good for him. First time I've ever rooted for a vulture. (Almost as good as that raccoon.)
