Today (6-01-18) is supposed to be the hottest day of the year so far. Normally, that wouldn't be a big deal. However in 2018, we haven't had a normal, weather year.
With the past two weeks in May having repeat record setting high tempts in the mid 90's - plus excessively high humidity, and heat indexes over 100 degrees - today obviously is going to be too hot for any outdoor activities. There is also another ozone alert. Ugh!!!
Therefore, I'm looking back a full month to the brief (but wonderful) handful of Spring days we had. This way I can enjoy some nice weather; at least in my mind.
This current heat wave followed warmer than normal early May. That followed less about 10 days of true Spring-like weather. That followed an unusually cold April: with day after day of hard, killing freezes. This year our Spring flowers were late in blooming or else did not bloom at all. Despite all (in between the record breaking cold and the record breaking high temperatures) this crab apple fortunately did put on a pretty display for a short period of time. I'm happy about that.
I had real plans to also visit the Botanical Gardens to enjoy their Spring flowers. Unfortunately, our Spring was so short this year that I never had the chance to get any farther than my own back yard to photograph Spring. We had rain and high winds for more than half of our less than two weeks of Spring!!! So a drive to the Botanical Gardens (90 minutes away) never happened. I feel lucky to have gotten the Spring photos that I did. Thank goodness for our Bradford Pear and Crab Apple trees!!!
FYI, the normal high for today (June 1st) here is 81°. In other words, the temperatures should still be pleasant. The all time June 1st record high (set in 1951)was 93°. Unfortunately, we're going to more than break that record high today. Sadly, even my hot weather, Summer plants are having trouble with this extreme heat. So I'm taking a mental break and looking back to our brief Spring. After I took this series of photos, the weather then became unusually hot... But we did have a few, very nice days as late April turned into the beginning of May.
