Journeyman

view map

On the move.
The journeyman years (Wanderjahre) refer to the tradition of setting out
on travel for several years after completing apprenticeship as a craftsman.
The tradition dates back to medieval times and is still alive in German-speaking countries.

We don't have that here. We just have homeless people who carry all they own in a shopping cart. :( This is a wonderful photo. I love the bits of snow and the sense of adventure. V

Reminds me of Charlie Chapman... :) I remember here up until the mid 1950's, especially outback, they were called Swagman ( they carried their Swags ( their bedding ) just like this, over their shoulder with a ( Billycan ) tied to it and swinging. In this they made their tea at their campfire at night. They were mostly shearers and farm hands and they walked hoping to find jobs along the way. They grew less in the 60'st when the economy grew post war and wool exports thrived. Jobs became permanent and teams of shearers travelled the country together from property to property....they still do.
