The end-

It's fitting that I am wearing this t-shirt in this Photo a Day. WMMS used to be a rock radio powerhouse playing music of once great bands. I traveled the world and would go into a bar in Rota Spain, Naples Italy, Turkey or Egypt or Fallon Nevada and inevitably I'd see a WMMS buzzard sticker somewhere, usually over a urinal as some drunk asshole from Cleveland was marking his spot for all others to see.

I started this PaD thing 5 years ago and it shaped who I am as a photographer. The last two years it's become more of a burden, time suck and a lost interest that has faded- much like wanting to shoot every picture at 1.8 for a creamy bokeh. Yeah, I went thru that phase like many high school kids go thru a goth period. No regrets- as the 85MM still is a great lens!

So, without much left to offer a Photo a Day on this great site that has been my home for 5 plus years, I'm unplugging and going off air on Pbase. The site is tired, slow and no new updates/technology changes to keep pace just like WMMS is now, nostalgic but lame and a shell of itself. It's not cool, hip or even relevant in todays age of instagram, facebook, unsplash and a host of other photo sharing sites but there are some great people and even those have wandered away over the years.... I took more from this site than it ever gave me. I have made some great friends and learned a lot that I will carry with me. This PaD started about about taking pictures and how to control light, but I soon learned it was really about finding and getting to know my inner photographer self. Doing a Photo a Day Project is a personal walk that you get to share, but at the end of the day its you, a camera and your thoughts. You want to become a better photographer, start a photo a day and stick with it. It'll teach you more in a year than a lifetime of online tutorials and youtube videos. As one of my Photograph friends always says, Go Create!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been a lotta fun Pbase but I'm out. Last one out, kill the lights!

Peace-

Davis

Well said. I've been with pbase since 2002. And it's served me well. I agree with your comment about them not keeping with the times. It's old tech. I've met a lot of great people and shared a lot of photography knowledge along the way. Some decided to leave before me, and I don't doubt more will leave after me. It's been fun, but it's time to move on.

Sad to hear David but I agree with you. I also have cut back on posting but at my age I can't see starting something over on another site, so I will stay until my tired old bones will not let me do the things I love...... Peace out my friend it was a pleasure to know you......looks like F.B. will be are only means of contact.......
Cheers Mike

Sad to hear this news, hard to say if you'll even see this comment, however I completely understand and can relate. I always enjoyed your posts even if I didn't comment regularly. I unplugged from Fakebook years ago, however I enjoy Instagram. Not sure if you're there, but I'll go check. And if you aren't but decide to, look me up.

Cheers Mr. Sands
