Natures Force

This 60 foot hollow dead tree in our neighbours property came down on Monday night and naturally it fell across our dividing fence. :)
It's been standing like this for the 35yrs we have been here but with a lot of rain this past two weeks what was left of the rotted base had lost it's strength. The pity is we have seen many birds nest at the top, wild ducks, and possums too.

Our son-in-law came in the morning to cut it up, release and restrain the fence line.

Sad to lose one of the big, old ones. Sorry about your fence but this is a nice photojournalism shot. V

This is a really neat shot, showing the aftereffects of dealing with a downed tree. But sad to think that all the wild critters will have lost a good roosting and nesting spot. V

Shame about the old tree and birds nests. Better to be safe though.

A fine image which tells a kind of sad story. V

Always makes me sad for all the birds and wildlife that lived in it...They are always cutting trees down where we live and I get so mad...if they don't like trees they shouldn't live in the countryside...rant over....hope your fence is fixed now Laine....BV

Always sad when an old tree comes down.. all that rain you've recently had didn't
help.

Sad but necessary. I'm about to take on a similar task with a couple of old trees that have become unsafe..

Sorry to see a tree that was home to little creatures come down.

What will happen to all that timber once it is cut up? In our part of the world it would go for firewood, but I'm guessing you don't have much use for that? :-)
