This interesting artwork by Alex Pentek can be found on the N5 Bypass outside Longford town. The corten steel sculpture represents the upper portion of a giant 20 metre long violin as if it has been partly unearthed by the newly cut-away embankment. Using a bold, elegant, yet simple visual language this idea aims to communicate Longford’s rich musical heritage. This also alludes to the lost rural tradition of road-side Ceili dancing and gathering at crossroads across Ireland before the present era of motorways.
