2-13-2018 female American Kestrel

Be sure to view in Original Size

This is the American version of the Kestrel. I was really
surprised to see a female near the top of a palm tree in
Palm Springs, California.

The male of this species is has much more coloration in its plumage - which is typically
true of birds - although not always.

PS Terry.
l can't tell the difference between
a male and female Kestrel. The male bird is usually more ornate.
(in nearly all except Humans.
Please can you help me ?

And many thanks for your most kind comment on the Pelican shot.

Wonderful and most interesting to see this Terry.
The bird is rather different and the nest is totally different.
The nests we've seen are in rocks with no foliage or other 'comforts'.
A lovely shot to see and also for comparison.
