"Wet Paint" is an annual fundraiser held on Marco Island each February.
Artists create a painting in one day which is then placed on auction that evening at the Historical Museum.
Half the proceeds from the auction benefit a scholarship for local high school students.
The artist you see working here is Carolyn Burger. Carolyn has lived on Marco Island for many years now
and is originally a retired educator from Ohio.
She has participated in Wet Paint since its inception about 10 years ago.
Carolyn was painting at Mackle Park a popular walking destination on Marco Island with a 3/4-mile walking path around a lake.
As I enjoyed my long conversation with Carolyn many other people stopped to chat.
One couple who were from Canada commented on our latest American tragedy that had happened just the day before we met.
The woman asked what was the name of this group that wanted all Americans to have guns.
The man chimed in that in Canada people don't have guns unless they are criminals.
They offered their sympathies to our country and to Carolyn and myself, both former educators,
who like so many others are truly hurting...
