With the Milky Way season for 2018 rapidly approaching, I thought that I would re-visit an image from last year.
A full moon was out and the original image can be seen here
].
As you can see in the original image, the moonlight has totally washed out the Milky Way
Since then, new software has allowed me to stack and re-process the image to a much more dramatic effect.
Made from 11 light frames (captured with a NIKON D610 full frame camera; and Nikkor 20mm f/1.8 lens) by Starry Landscape Stacker 1.5.1. Exposure was 10 seconds for each frame. Final processing in Adobe Lightroom CC; and Photoshop CC.
The stacking provided much more structure with which to work. The colours may still have been washed out, but the Milky Way certainly looks more detailed than in the original single 10 second frame.
