Little Red Flying-foxes

the evening fly-out
The flying-foxes gather in a huge swirl at dusk before breaking up in columns to fly off to their nocturnal feeding grounds.

By way of explanation given some comments, flying-foxes are large bats and the Little Red Flying-fox feeds mainly on nectar and pollen from flowers but sometimes also a little fruit.

Oh my! This is amazing, we do have fruit bats here but I have never seen them in such number.

Now that is saturation! Any chance of accidentally being hit?

Love the shot Don, bats get such a bad rap from so many humans... that's a lot of possible Guano seen here

I remember these when we visited Paronella Park last year..the trees were full of them
hanging upside down... one felt the need of an umbrella! :)

I was wondering if they were back. So sad to read of the recent flying fox losses due to heat. A fantastic image showing such a huge number.

awesome, makes bird flocks seem trivial

Wooh, that's quite the mass-of-birds - - I've only seen a swarm of bats that would compare
