Our photographer was on leave today so when news came in of a fatal stabbing this morning, I headed to the scene with my camera.
It subsequently emerged that a young Japanese worker with a multinational company was stabbed as he walked down this residential street. A young Irish man was stabbed a short distance away and another Irish man was seriously assaulted at a separate location.
An 18 year old Egyptian man was subsequently arrested and is in custody. Gardai are investigating the motive for attacks, which they described as a 'random and unprovoked attack' and that terrorism is one line of inquiry,.
Whatever the motive, the attack brought terror to the streets of Dundalk.
It's sad to think of that Japanese man's family getting the news of his death so far from home.
