Steve and Norah on the Bright Angel Trail

On our fifth and final day we hiked out from Indian Gardens to the rim - 4.8 miles and over 3000 feet elevation gain. People were stirring in the campground pretty early and we got up early too and were on the trail by 7:30. I was worried it might be too early for Norah (she is NOT a morning person), but she seemed pretty motivated by getting a meal at the Bright Angel Restaurant. We were targeting a nice steady pace to get us to the rim at lunch time, but it turns out Norah had other plans. We put her in the front to pace and we had to hustle to keep up with her. We made it in 2.5 hours and in time for breakfast, where Norah promptly ordered a Shirley Temple and a side of bacon (and Steve hit the coffee hard). We all made guesses to how many people we would pass as we hiked up and we all seriously underestimated how many hikers we would see - it was over 275 and I think Norah said "Happy Thanksgiving" to almost all of them.
