Le Fumeur de Gitanes.

Some explanations for the non francophones :

First the sign on the right top of the shop which sells material for electronic cigarettes is a pun : "cigarette" does not need a translation ; "arrête" means «stopping». Incentive to the smokers to stop cigarette and to adopt e-cigarette.
But, more important, the portrait underneath represents Serge Gainsbourg (1928-1991), a brilliant and famous songwriter with a very controversial private life, heavy Whisky’s drinker and hard smoker of Gitanes !

Singer-songwriter, pianist, painter, scriptwriter, director, writer, actor and film-maker, great provocator too, Serge Gainsbourg met through his songs a huge success in France. Husband of singer and British actress Jane Birkin, he had love affairs with the most beautiful French actresses (Brigitte Bardot for instance).

(For those who want to discover the work of Serge Gainsbourg. I recommmend to listen first to «l’histoire de Melody Nelson»).

I love the portrait - it captures a marvelous expression, Mona Lisaish, and cool smoke forming hearts :) A fascinating image - the gates and window balance up the image perfectly. Interesting explanation too :) BV

An interesting play on words. Gainsbourg's daughter is one of my favorite actors. Love the play between horizontal and vertical lines in the image.

Vive le calembour!;-) A mon avis, "Gainsbourg, le vapoteur", ça ne marche pas!
Bonne prise! ~V~

graphically as strong as Gitanes cigarettes...both they and Gauloises always seemed to have a certain cool cachet, and a throat-searing taste...Gainsbourg got some airplay here in Canada too, on the French language radio stations..

A great image in very lovely light. Unfotunatly smokers can change to the e cigarette, but they will not stop smoking. It's another hype where people spend lots of money on different tastes and flovours as I can see on my job.

The image is arresting and the text indicates a telling message. It is thought provoking. Our country should adopt the philosophy.
