I subscribe to the Adobe Creative Cloud that gives you Photoshop and Lightroom. It is $10 per month. That is a pretty good deal. I have remarked in the past that the days of buying individual packages has gone over the hill. The Creative Cloud gives you access to tech support and upgrades when they are made available. Recently, new updates were available. I put it off for a while because it seems that whenever you do upgrades things don't work as well as expected. Today was no exception.

All the updates were downloaded and I started to check things out. Bridge seemed to work well. Had to reset some preferences (why can't it just use the old ones????) but that was all. Photoshop seemed to be just fine. I seldom use it, so all I did was load a photo and see what happened.

Lightroom was a totally different story. Lightroom is very heavily used in the Cross household. It needs to work reliably. It is used every day. When I loaded the program I got an error message that error 1114 had occurred. I did the usual Microsoft fix: load it again and see what happens. The same thing. Now here is the interesting thing, A quick Bing search took me right to a YouTube video that fixed the problem. It had to do with switchable graphics. I would have never thought to look there. Anyway, after following the instructions, things were back on track.

Well, sort of. I loaded the new Lightroom and found that the format of the catalog needed to be updated. Okey Dokey, push the button and all will be fine. NOT There was an error that said, "Lightroom encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of Lightroom." I Binged that one with no success. What's a guy to do?

Well, the last resort was Adobe tech support. You get it online or on the telephone if you are a Creative Cloud subscriber. So a online chat was started with Udit Tuli in New Deli. What is cool is that with my permission he could access my computer remotely. I have done this before and it worked well. Today's photo is of the dialog box from the session. We spent about four hours working the problem. The result of which was his conclusion that my catalog file was corrupted. I had to disagree because it ran just fine in the old version of Lightroom.

Although the session did not solve the basic problem, it gave me an insight about how to work around the problem. Right now the old Lightroom version is working as before, so I can work on the problem at my leisure.
