M 101 - The 'Pinwheel Galaxy' in Ursa Major

Nerpio/Spain

This face-on spiral galaxy is about 21 million light-years away from us and is more than twice the size than our home galaxy.
Tidal interactions with neighboring galaxies trigger strong star formation activities in its spiral's arms.
NGC 5477 to the left is a irregular dwarf galaxy and belongs to the same group of galaxies as M 101.
