Let It Be

If you look really close, you can see a mosquito about to attack Timmy's left ear ... This is the first (and only) time I have ever captured a mosquito in flight.

I'd like to know who neutered the leopards we saw with notched ears in South Africa and Botswana. That's why I asked about "every cat". It doesn't seem to be limited to small, domestic ones. Our dogs' hair is long enough to hide any distinguishing ear features.

I didn't know about the clipped ear, our cat went under the knife years ago and that makes me wonder if one of his is notched and I've just not paid attention. My daughter just walked in and said her 2 neutered cats have tattoos indicating they were neutered and spayed. Paul

Nice capture.
I'll bet "let it be" lasted a couple of seconds at best before that left ear twitched.

A notched ear on a cat indicates that the cat has been neutered. There are organizations that trap free range cats, have them neutered, notch the cat's ear, and then turn them loose again. If they trap a cat with a notched ear, they just turn it loose because it has already been neutered. Timmy was at one time a free range cat living on the streets of Slidell, Louisiana, but he is now living with me.

Does every cat have a notched ear?
