Max Jacob, est né en 1876 à Quimper et est mort le 5 mars 1944 à Drancy.
Poéte, romancier, peintre c’est un précurseur du Dadaisme puis du surréalisme. Il fut ami de Pablo Picasso, de Guillaume Apollinaire, de Marie Laurencin, de Modigliani...
Ses origines ashkénazes lui valent, six mois avant la Libération de Paris, d'être arrêté par la Gestapo. Interné par la gendarmerie française dans le camp de Drancy, il y meurt en cinq jours, trente heures avant sa déportation programmée pour Auschwitz.

Poet, novelist, painter, he is a precursor of the Dadaism then the surrealism. His friends was Picasso, Guillaume Apollinaire, Marie Laurencin, Modigliani...
Due to his Ashkenazi origins, he was arrested by the Gestapo six months before the Liberation of Paris. Interned by the French gendarmerie in the camp of Drancy, he dies there in five days, thirty hours before his deportation scheduled for Auschwitz.
