The end

This is the very last shot from my now deceased Canon 7D.
Canon wants $511 to repair the mirror assembly & shutter assembly.
I have decided (thanks to many of you for helping me see the light) that the repair money would be better applied towards a new toy.
Decisions...... Decisions......

Do I break the bank and spring for the Canon 5D, Mark IV and get the latest, greatest technology?
Do I save a few dollars and purchase the Canon 5D, Mark III?
Or do I buy the 7D, Mark II (which has been on the market for a couple years)?

I want a camera that will handle a higher ISO without creating noise for indoor & low-light photography.
I also want a camera for bird & wildlife photography.

Help!
What should I do???

I like very much the 7D and it's on my list as a potentiel camera I'll get when replacing my 50D (which still offer me satisfaction).
But If you're ready to go one step futher I'll tell you, with no hesitation to switch for a 5D because of the full frame.
It brings you a lot in image quality.
After, 5D MKIII or 5D MKIV wil depend of the money you want to put in it and what the newest version really has interesting to pretend for the price.

Nice shot. I may have a related decision to make on my 60D. Controls rather unstable but it is 7 years old.

Nice shot! ~V
I love my 5D Mark IV (coming from Mark II). Much cleaner and great AF.

Last shot but certainly not the worst. Beautiful. Good luck with choosing a new toy. V

This is a beautiful capture Stephanie! I think if you do lots of wildlife and/or birds , a DX model might be better (or you'll need one of the huge 400 + lenses). Although for low light and clarity what Walter suggests is probably a good bet for long term use. Lol, I didn't help you at all did I? Sorry!

The 7D went out with a bang, the image is great for detail and DOF. As far as replacement is concerned, when yo get to a certain age weight becomes a factor. V

Very nice last shot with this lgihting and detail. "V"
Get the best, get the 5D Mark IV and then you won't think about upgrading anymore.

Well - they do not last for ever, sooner or later my 7D will die too, I am still quite happy with it. Don't know which to buy after...
Such a lovely birdie you captured here, Stephanie - good luck for your new toy!

Too bad for your camera and potential repair costs Stephanie. I had a similar problem with my Nikon D800 and it cost me about the same as what you were quoted. I opted for the repair as the camera was relatively costly to replace. So far, a year later it is working great. Being a Nikon user, I can't help you much wrt a new Canon. Price range, full-frame or Dx all enter the equation. Good luck.

I am using the Canon 5D Mark III for five years now and I'm glad with. During Venice's carnival I took images early in the morning and late at night and I appreciate the result of high Iso use (12 800 ISO or more). Canon EF-S lenses do not match with it...
Nice shot in a fine light. V.

my two cents, the 7D, Mark II can handle both type of lens (red dot and white dot on the front of the body) . So its a thing to considerate.

the 5D mark IV can't so as my my 1D mark IV (only red dot). So each time a want to do
sunset or landscape ect. with my 17/55 mm lens need to use my 7D

This is a very beautiful image
You will make wonderful photographs no matter which camera you choose

ace shot....good send off from your deceased camera...as for a new one, get as much quality as you can afford...you are familiar with Canon, already have the lenses...that would seem a key factor..

Such a sharp, well-lit capture of this bird, set against beautiful bokeh. Personally, I'd vote for breaking the bank and getting the best, although I have no idea how much it costs. But your photography is worthy of it! V.

A very sharp capture, Stephanie! Sorry to hear about your camera..
