Musca autumnalis, also known as Autumnal House Fly
This is a male; females’ eyes are widely separated.
The genus Musca (Latin for “fly”) includes the domestic House Fly, M. domestica. Curously, this
Face Fly and the House Fly are the only two members of the genus found in North America. These two
species have been introduced from the Old World, which has dozens (hundreds?) of species of Musca.
