Tomorrow we embark on a short (12 day) road trip. This is my chance to try out my new computer on the road. There has been a lot of tinkering on my part. The most important part was getting all the photography stuff working. This morning I figured out how to transfer all the settings for Lightroom between computers and that transition went well. I got the Canon ZoomBrowser Memory Card Utility working as well. The hardest part of that was finding the installation files. Canon doesn't use it any more, but I found that if you search support for old cameras it is there. That was a relief. I haven't messed with color correction yet, but it appears that the native color setting is pretty good. The older screens were way too blue. But that is something to be messed with later.
So the rest of the day will be downloading updated maps for our navigational software (GPS Copilot, very good), packing my stuff and making a quick beer run to stock up on travel beer for the trip.
Now a word about packing. For me, that is a one hour process assuming the I have enough clean clothes. The items that are packed just don't vary that much, regardless of the duration of the trip. We manage to do laundry when needed so an infinite supply of underwear is not required. For some people, not to mention any names, the packing process takes a week or so. It includes several "practice packs," if you can believe it. This particular someone also takes it upon herself to get together food, pillows, maps and guide books and presents for the people we visit. This is actually a vital part of preparation and it is well done every time. So this afternoon some time I will pack my suitcase and call it good.
