S is for Soapberries

My Kitchen

Nice sweet Longans for a snack!
My Chinese friends call them Dragon's Eyes. Member of the Soapberry family which also includes Lychee.
Longan berries are said to be “more gratifying” than the lychee. Its flesh is juicy and deliciously sweet. I think it tastes like honeydew melon.
I also enjoy making tea from dried longans.

Nice shot of them. There's a whole family of fruit similar to these, like Rambuatan and Salak. Longan means Dragon Eye in Chinese. ;-)

don't recognize these...they look like flavour capsules securely enclosed...curious name too for a fruit that tastes of melon...perhaps they offer multiple uses..
