Thanks, Hal for passing Jane's message on so that we can connect again.
It's been so many years!
Also, my condolences to Betty Ann.
What a shock and loss for her.
May comfort and peace be restored to her as she grieves this great missing piece in her life.
My prayers are lifted up for her and his family.

Aloha Hal:

First, thank you for taking on the task this newsletter.
It must take a lot of time, but the classmates do appreciate your diligence.

Secondly, please pass on to Gerri my deepest sympathy on her brotherís passing.
Unfortunately, I only get to see her sparingly, and that is why I enjoy receiving your emails.
Of my 75 years, think Iíve known Gerri since we were 12 at Kaimuki Intermediate School.
That makes 62 years - more than some peoplesí lifetimes.
As I live on Maui, I donít get to run into former classmates very often, but Gerri is one of those
whenever I see her, itís like it was yesterday.
Please pass on my heartfelt condolences to her and her family.
Although I did not know Hank, I feel like I did thru all the letters Bing wrote and shared
throughout the years.
I did meet them at the 50th reunion though.
Again, my aloha goes out to her and their loved ones.
And James Rathburn, what can one say?
I remember him as quiet, tall and very nice.
Sorry to hear about his passing too.
The deaths of each are a reminder to us how fragile life is.
So enjoy it while we can for we never know what tomorrow will bring.

Thank you Hal for keeping us abreast of KHSís Class of 1960 news.
Brings a smile to my face whenever I read it.

Much Aloha,
Becky Paresa

Aloha, all,
It is always so sad to hear of a classmate, a spouse or a family member's passing.
It is also sobering to accept that we are all at the age that makes life more fragile.
Robert and I have soldiered our way through this realization and are very compassionate to others
facing loss of loved ones.
To each classmate who has endured such sadness, we send our love and condolences and cyber hugs.

Harold, I have not received your blog but got a call about this distressing news today about Betty's Hank suddenly passing away.
Terribly sad especially having the pleasure of seeing Hank and Betty at the Natsunoya lunch.
I enjoyed my brief conversation and snapshot of Betty and personable Hank.
Lovely gentleman and a tremendous loss to Betty and we all who knew Hank.
Jack and I send our deepest condolences to Betty and Hank's family.

God must have had some important plans for him, but what a shock that it was so sudden.

We ask the Lord to give you strength at this time and please know that we are all joining in prayer for you.

I remember James Rathburn; he was also another "Gentle Giant".
He would break up fights on the playground if he was around at Kaimuki Intermediate School.
He was a really nice guy, but you wouldn't want to get him angry.
I used to play "football," with a tennis ball, with him and others on the large playground in the middle of the school.
On the Internet I watched other high school graduates who went back to their high school and couldn't find their time capsule.
Did we ever find ours?

Though I've met Hank only once, he was truly a down-to-earth guy and left an lasting impression.
Even Jo-Anne commented he was a wonderful human-being; cordial, friendly and well-read.
He will be missed by many I'm certain.
Life is so fragile that we need to savor every precious moment we have and live it to the fullest.
My condolences to Betty-Ann and family.

Hi Hal,

Was so sad to read of Bing's husband's passing.
Just saw her at the Natsunoya Tea House reunion in May - hadn't seen her since graduation - and didn't meet but saw her husband there.
How sad for her.
Want her to know how sorry I am for her loss.
Can I get her address or can you just relay my message?

Stunned and shocked at the sad news of Hank's passing.
As Raynor mentioned, Hank looked fit and was his usual smiling self when we saw him at the teahouse reunion.
We will miss this gentle giant, someone you couldn't help liking when first meeting him.
Our deepest sympathies and condolences to Bing and the family.

Great interview Manny, and very informative too.

Hal

You probably have been informed by now but Betty Ann's husband, Hank, passed away suddenly 3 days ago.
He left their apartment at around 3pm DC time to go on some errands.
One of the staff from the apartments found him not long thereafter.
He was slumped over the steering wheel of his car, engine running but he was gone.
I've known him for over 20 years and for a guy who was born, raised in the DC area he was filled with Aloha.
Sad is that Betty Ann and Hank were looking forward to travelling the world as she had just retired.
I got together with them at June (Yanazawa) and Steve Kobayashi's home in their way back from the Hawaii '60 grad gathering
and he seemed fit as a fiddle.
We have lost a good guy from our Ohana.

Subject: sonny tambunting offer

From: Brenda Ignacio Gore
To: hal-khs60

Aloha, Hal, et al,

Where has this year gone so quickly?!
Before long, October will be here, and we will all be looking at each other with such affection and, appreciation for still
being on the earth plane.
It is always a jolt to learn of the passing of classmates, a sobering reminder to live our lives fully and with abundant aloha.

Hal, I seem to have lost your last email with updated information, wherein Sonny Tambunting, aka Jesus Francisco
Tambunting, kindly invited the cheering squad to a group dinner.
Robert and I would love to join him in what would surely be a cheerful gathering, LOL.
We hope and pray that those still in existence will be able to find a mutually good time to honor his invitation.
Sonny is always fun and positive to be with!
At any rate, this is a big thank you to Sonny for the thought!

We are adjusting to our first summer in Henderson, Nevada.
You may have seen that we have had a few days of record-breaking temps of 117 degrees!
It's quite hot, except that humidity is so very low that it feels like stepping into the oven to bake ourselves without gravy.
Thank goodness we have a pool and can cool off when it's safe to go outside, usually after sunset.

On the bright side, we are having quite a lovely time adjusting to our retired life and taking road trips without falling
into the Pacific ocean.
Visited Solvang, CA and Santa Barbara recently with our beloved Sheltie Kaimana, who showed us how well he travels!
We also enjoy being two doors down from granddaughter Sofia and being her transportation and family support when
her mom's away flying with Hawaiian Airlines.

We send our love to all of our classmates and hope to see many at this next reunion!

Aloha piha,
Brenda (Ignacio) and Robert Gore

June 17, 2017

Thanks Muriel, I'll try to post that reminder again before the deadline.
Also a reminder to sign up as soon as for those attending but traveling on their own.
October 15th may seem still quite a ways away but it's surprising how quickly the days pass.
As we age the clock advances at a faster pace or so it seems.
Remember when we would wish the clock hands would spin a little faster when we were teenagers ?
Now I'm sure most of us would prefer each passing day to go a little longer if not slower.
