I am not a wine snob, a beer snob or a whisky snob. I like good wine, beer and whisky for sure. But for the most part I stay in a price range that fits my palate. Several years ago we had the opportunity to have two bottles of very expensive wine. It was very nice. If it hadn't been a gift we would have never spent $100 for a bottle of wine. The same goes for beer. The beers that I like cost about $7-$9 for a six pack. There is a hell of a lot of good beer in that price range. I am not going to pay $15 for a six pack of Ballast Point, regardless of whether the guys on Big Bang Theory drink it. As far as whisky is concerned, there are lots of really good ones at reasonable prices. I do have a $100 bottle of 18 year Glenmorangie on the shelf. It is very good, but that is only taken out on special occasions and I can appreciate the value of it.

Now, about vinegar. I was at H-E-B and looking for some things. Right next to where I was looking was a display of balsamic vinegar. There is a bottle of it in our pantry. It gets used on occasion. It cost a few bucks, probably. But there is no way in hell I am going to pay $16 for a bottle of balsamic vinegar, especially because you are going to splash it into something where the flavor is diluted by all the other components. There certainly must be vinegar snobs out there. There are olive oil snobs out there. We saw a shop somewhere that had dozens of olive oils for sale. I guess it really comes down to what floats your boat. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Never thought of it that way.
Have to remember that.

It's aged. They applied interest for the time spent waiting.

Point well taken.

The best ingredients make the best food. But price is not necessarily the best metric for quality. That being said, good balsamic vinegar (the stuff that is a little thicker than the cheap stuff) is really great as a stand-alone component (like on a caprese salad).
