We had a nice visit with Ginny's sister Theresa and her husband Rod. It was relaxing because we didn't have to go until noon time. After that we headed into Corvallis to have lunch with some old friends of Ginny's. Joe Nibler (left) was her adviser at Oregon State and Ken Hedberg (right) was her research adviser. Ken is 97 years old and still goes in to the Chemistry department every day and works on his research. We have managed to meet up with these people over the years and always enjoy the meeting. Today it was at a brew pub in Corvallis. They had a very nice Pilsner.

After lunch we headed to Florence, Oregon which is on the coast. Ginny had booked a very nice room. After checking in we headed out to Heceta Head Light. We are not lighthouse chasers but given the opportunity we have a visit. There are many lighthouses along the Oregon coast. This particular one has a first order Fresnel lens which is very massive. There are lots of first order lenses still in use around the world. This particular light is still operating, although it is electric these days. We had a nice hike up to the light. Unfortunately, it was a little misty so our photos from a distance weren't too good.

We headed back into town, stopping to pick up some salads at Fred Meyer. Back at the hotel we enjoyed salads, Merlot and granola bars. Life is good.
