St. George's Church, the oldest "purpose built" Anglican church in South East Asia, was completed in 1818. Constructed
entirely by Indian convict labor, it was built of brick on a solid plastered stone base. The congregation's banners
announcing its 200th anniversary were a bane to photography, completely hiding the details of the church's facade.
