This is one of some pictures I took of the vessel Bastarda, a part of a project “Darzana: two arsenals, one vessel” curated by Feride Çiçekoğlu and Ertuğ Uçar for the Turkey pavilion at the Venice Bienale in 2016. It was built in Istanbul, transported to Venice, and reconstructed in the Istanbul Modern courtyard, on display within the scope of an exhibition “Harbor”. ” It is built of waste materials. The Italian word darzana is related to the Turkish tersane and both stem from an Arabic word, meaning “place of industry”.
I copy the extensive explanation, see there for more.
