The Elytra Filament Pavilion was on display at the Vitra Design Museum from February 11 to May 14, 2017. It is not a permanent building, but a temporary exhibition. It was also seen (2016) at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
The Elytra Filament Pavilion is an experimental architectural installation inspired by biomimicry, the imitation of natural structures, and created using advanced robotics. The project was designed by German architect Achim Menges, together with Moritz Dörstelmann, and engineers Jan Knippers and Thomas Auer from the University of Stuttgart.
