A Really Bad Shot

(NOTE: I didn't actually take this image, so I am entering it on behalf of my vet who did take it.)

A couple of days ago I took Timmy cat to the vet for a flea treatment. (Fleas are really bad here this year.) That night, Timmy developed a fever and started having some breathing issues and I though he might be having a bad reaction to the earlier treatment. So we took him to an emergency vet. Timmy is okay and pretty much fully recovered, but we discovered something at the vet's. This is an x-ray of Timmy from that vet visit. Apparently, some time in the past, someone shot Timmy with a pellet gun. The doctor said that white object in the lower section of the image is apparently a pellet inside Timmy's body. (The white object near the top of the image is Timmy's ID microchip.) The doctor said it is not necessary to remove the pellet, as it should not cause any problems being there. If you have outdoor pets, remember that it's dangerous out there. Timmy apparently grew up on the streets ... don't really know his background. But, nowadays, Timmy spends most of his time inside. But he does still love the outdoors when the weather is good.

When I was a kid I had a pellet rifle and the pellets I had were not pointed like this one so at first I thought the pellet was a arrow you added pointing at the pellet. I kept looking and the all of a sudden it hit me duh.... I'm glad to see that the wound healed without any lifelong problems. Growing up in a farm country the only reason I can think of for shooting a animal is if it was a pest but it also could have just been a mean rotten evil person too. Paul

I agree - fascinating. I always find it tough to believe that someone would shoot a defenseless animal like a cat.
