'Dark satanic mills' were not the sole preserve of northern England's industrial towns. in the 19th and early 20th centuries the Paisley area, southwest of Glasgow was a major centre for cotton weaving and thread manufacture. The Anchor Mill was completed in 1886 and ceased industrial production in 1980. After that it fell into disrepair but has since been regenerated and now contains residential apartments. The adjacent river, the White Cart Water flows over a natural weir next to the mill known as the Seedhill Crags.
