NGC1788 Fox Face Nebula

This image is of the Fox Face Nebula and is located in the constellation of
Orion the Hunter. The nebula itself is the lighter patch in the upper right hand
quadrant of the image.

A total of almost 15 hours of exposures were taken to capture the data which were
then used to compile this image. The object is around 1,300 light years away from
our planet earth.

The nebula that we see as the lighter patch in the top right hand corner is known
as a reflection nebula because it shines by reflecting light from surrounding
stars. The brown 'dusty' areas are comprised of interstellar dust which will, if
we leave them long enough, eventually collapse under their own gravitational
attraction and form new objects such as planets and asteroids.
