Fernandina walls is the same name by which the medieval outer wall in Oporto was commonly known, of which only small pieces have survived to the present day. During the fourteenth century, due to a large expansion of the city, and for reasons of protection, began the constrution of a new ring of walls that was largely completed around 1370. The fact that the work was only finished in the reign of King Fernando, explains the fact that it is commonly known as “Fernandina Wall”.
