I was in Tampa going on a cruise in Feb 2010 when a night shuttle launch was scheduled. I had heard that you can see a launch from most of the state if conditions were correct and I had hoped to catch it but it was delayed due to weather and we were out to sea by the time the main engine ignition occurred. We were in Florida on vacation when we heard about a launch. We were in the south west end of the state on the date it was supposed to go up. But thanks to a couple of weather delays, they waited for us to get into the area. I pull over to the side of the road, we're 8 to 12 miles away, people have their radios on, we're hearing the countdown, the radio says 10, 9, 8, and I'm looking in the general area and see the rocket going up. There's an 8 second delay on the radio. So if you do go to shoot one, remember that. davev.
